Ferrari’s first fully electric production car, the Luce, has become one of the most talked-about automotive launches of 2026. While the Italian marque is no stranger to pushing engineering boundaries, the Luce represents its boldest step yet—combining an all-new electric platform with a design that has sparked intense debate across the automotive world.

Ferrari’s Boldest Design Gamble Yet

Developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design firm founded by legendary former Apple designer Jony Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson, the Luce moves away from Ferrari’s traditional two-seat supercar formula. Instead, it introduces a four-door, five-seat grand tourer designed to combine everyday usability with Ferrari-level performance.

Despite criticism over its unconventional styling, Ferrari has defended the project. Chief Product Development Officer Gianmaria Fulgenzi said the car simply needs time to be “digested,” arguing that groundbreaking designs often challenge expectations before becoming appreciated. Ferrari has also stated that customer interest remains strong despite the mixed online reaction.

Can the Luce Redefine Ferrari’s Electric Future?

Underneath the controversial exterior lies impressive technology. The Luce features four electric motors producing around 1,050 horsepower, all-wheel drive, a 122 kWh battery, 350 kW fast charging, and a 0–100 km/h time of just 2.5 seconds, making it one of the most powerful road cars Ferrari has ever produced.

Whether the Luce becomes a landmark success or a controversial chapter in Ferrari’s history remains to be seen. What is certain is that Ferrari has chosen innovation over convention, signalling that its electric future will not simply imitate its past.

As deliveries approach later this year, the Luce is likely to remain one of the automotive industry’s most closely watched new models.
